Birdcage

These brass bell ladies graced many a mantelpiece in respectable post-war homes. Bonnets tightly fastened, hands strategically placed - as if their crinoline petticoats and birdcage corsets weren't enough to protect their virtue. I can remember them to this day, displayed in pride of place in my Scottish Aunt's living room.

case study
Birdcage was exhibited at the Frieze Art Fair as part of Impossible Exchange, a participatory event which was one of the 2009 Frieze Projects. I was asked to talk about Birdcage in one of the live onsite reviews as part of Brina Thurston's project 'Open Call'. Impossible Exchange was curated by Filipa Oliveira and Miguel Amado for Arte Contempo, Lisbon.
